Destination
Ouarzazate
Ouarzazate lies south of the High Atlas and is known for Taourirt Kasbah and its film studios. The city is a starting point for valleys, fortified settlements and desert landscapes in southern Morocco.
When to go
Spring and autumn are pleasant for sightseeing. Summer days are very hot, while winter evenings are cool; when crossing the Atlas, mountain weather also matters.
Things to see and do
Visit Taourirt Kasbah and choose a guided tour of a film studio. Aït Ben Haddou lies outside the city and deserves a separate excursion with enough time.
Practical tips
Ask which parts of the kasbah and studios are accessible: restoration work or filming can affect visits. Do not combine a long mountain drive with too many sightseeing stops.
Getting there and getting around
An important road connection runs from Marrakesh across the High Atlas. When arranging a transfer, discuss breaks and road conditions; you will need a vehicle for sights outside the city.
Where to stay
A city hotel suits a short stopover. A guesthouse in the surrounding area offers a quieter stay if transport is already arranged.
What to try
Try vegetable or meat tagine, couscous and regional bread. Arrange an early breakfast before a full-day outing and carry enough drinking water.
