Destination
Bali
Bali is an island in Indonesia known for its beaches, nature and temples.
When to go
The dry season from April to October is particularly good for beach holidays, walks and most activities. Travel is also possible during the rainy season, although rainfall is more frequent then.
Things to see and do
Visit Ubud and the rice terraces, the temples of Tanah Lot and Besakih, and spend time on the island's beaches. Nusa Penida is suitable for a separate excursion. To discover the underwater world, you can snorkel or dive on the reefs of Menjangan.
Practical tips
Do not try to explore the whole island in one day: journeys between different regions can take a long time. Plan transport for travel around the island in advance. Follow local rules when visiting temples and respect religious ceremonies.
Getting there and getting around
Bali's main international gateway is Ngurah Rai Airport. Taxis and transfers are available from the airport. Allow extra time for journeys around the island, as traffic can be heavy in popular areas.
Where to stay
Choose a region that matches the type of trip you want. Ubud is well suited to exploring culture, nature and the central part of the island. Sanur suits travellers who prefer a quieter beach area. Nusa Dua is known for its resorts, hotels and tourist infrastructure.
What to try
Try Balinese dishes such as ayam betutu, a spiced chicken dish, sate lilit, a local version of satay, and lawar. Babi guling, roast pork with spices, is another well-known traditional Balinese dish.
