Morne Trois Pitons National Park
Morne Trois Pitons is a mountain national park in Dominica with rainforest, volcanic landscapes, fumaroles, hot springs, lakes and waterfalls.
When to go
Heavy rain is possible in the mountains even during drier weeks. Check trails, river levels, volcano reports and weather immediately before setting out.
Things to see and do
Choose a route according to the weather and your fitness: Emerald Pool, Freshwater and Boeri lakes, or, when the trail is open and with a guide, the Valley of Desolation and Boiling Lake.
Practical tips
The Boiling Lake trail is long and strenuous; do not walk alone, do not approach active steam vents, and observe closures and local instructions.
Getting there and getting around
The main access points are reached by mountain roads from Roseau via Laudat and neighbouring areas. Book an experienced driver and guide, especially after rain.
Where to stay
Roseau, Laudat or nearby mountain villages are suitable for an early start. Clarify meals, drying facilities for wet equipment and the transfer to your chosen trail.
What to try
Try callaloo soup, fish, plantains, taro, yams and other local root vegetables.
