Destination
Malbun
Malbun is a mountain village and resort in the Liechtenstein Alps, surrounded by pastures, forests and high ridges. Family-friendly snow sports take centre stage in winter, while scenic walking trails start here in summer.
When to go
June to September is usually suitable for hiking; winter trips depend on snow conditions and lift operation. Hotels, restaurants and mountain lifts may close between seasons, so check opening times in advance.
Things to see and do
Climb to Sareis on foot or take the chairlift when it is open, choose a marked circular walk through the valley and explore the village. Winter offers pistes and winter paths, but only when the facilities are officially open.
Practical tips
Avalanches, rockfall, thunderstorms and rapid weather changes are possible in the mountains even outside winter. Do not tackle difficult routes alone, leave details of your route, bring warm and waterproof clothing and ensure your insurance covers mountain rescue.
Getting there and getting around
Malbun is usually about half an hour from Vaduz by car or bus. In winter, check road conditions, winter-tyre and snow-chain requirements and the last return service.
Where to stay
The village has family hotels, apartments and smaller mountain accommodation. Book early for winter weekends and summer holidays, and confirm meals and transport between seasons.
What to try
Try käsknöpfle, ribel, Alpine cheese, seasonal game and simple dishes in mountain inns.
