Destination
Kotor
Kotor is a historic town on the Bay of Kotor, surrounded by mountains and known for its medieval old town, fortifications, stone streets and impressive bay views.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are particularly good for walks. Summer is hot, and cruise ships can make the old town very crowded.
Things to see and do
Explore the old town and the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, walk along the bay and, if fit enough, climb to the fortress for a panoramic view.
Practical tips
The climb to the fortress is steep and very hot in summer, so an early start is recommended. The centre is especially busy on cruise-ship days.
Getting there and getting around
The nearest airports are in Tivat and Podgorica. Kotor is also connected by bus to other towns in Montenegro and neighbouring countries.
Where to stay
The old town is suitable for atmosphere and sightseeing. Dobrota offers quieter waterfront accommodation and walks along the bay.
What to try
Try fresh fish, seafood, pršut, local cheeses and dishes from the Montenegrin coast.
