When to go

Spring, summer and early autumn are good for lakeside walks. Winter is cooler, but the city remains pleasant for museums and short breaks.

Things to see and do

Walk along the lake and through the old town, see the Jet d’Eau, visit St Peter’s Cathedral and one of the museums. If you have enough time, take a trip on the lake.

Practical tips

As in other Swiss cities, costs can be high. Public transport is convenient, and the centre is relatively compact.

Getting there and getting around

Geneva Airport is close to the city and connected to the centre by trains and buses. Trams, buses and regional trains operate within Geneva.

Where to stay

The old town offers a historic atmosphere, lakeside neighbourhoods suit walks and views, and the area around Cornavin station provides good transport connections.

What to try

Try Swiss cheese, fondue, lake fish dishes and local chocolate. International cuisine is also well represented in Geneva.
