When to go

Late spring and summer are particularly good for walks in the city and along the coast. Autumn and winter become cooler and windier.

Things to see and do

Walk through the Long Market and along the Motława, visit one of the major history museums and, if you have enough time, go to the Baltic coast.

Practical tips

The historic centre is compact and easy to explore on foot. Suburban trains are useful for trips to Sopot and Gdynia.

Getting there and getting around

Gdańsk has an international airport and good rail connections to Warsaw and other Polish cities. Trains, trams and buses operate throughout the metropolitan area.

Where to stay

The Main Town is convenient for a first visit. Areas near the station suit travel around the Tricity, while coastal neighbourhoods offer access to the sea.

What to try

Try Baltic fish, pierogi, Polish soups and local pastries.
